Mikros Gialos, also called Rouda Bay or Poros Beach, is a sheltered pebble bay on the south-east coast, below the village of Poros.
The names cause confusion, but it is one bay. It sits in a bowl of green hills looking out towards Ithaca and Kefalonia, and the mountains in the middle of the island break the maistros, the north-westerly wind, before it arrives, so the water is often glassy in the morning and still good for a swim in the evening. Only a strong southerly reaches it. The pebbles are small and smooth and the water very clear. Follow the shore by kayak or paddleboard and the bay breaks into small coves, with a sea cave you can swim into, where the light turns the rock blue. There are a few tavernas on the beach and no nightlife; at night the loudest sound is the sea. It suits families, swimmers and anyone who wants a quiet holiday by the water. We look after villas on the hillside above the bay, including one a short walk from the beach.
