Poros is a small village on the hills of south-east Lefkada, above the bay of Mikros Gialos, and not to be confused with the island of Poros near Athens or the Poros on Kefalonia.
Most people drive past it on the way to the beach. Those who stop find a village lived in all year, with kafeneia on the square, lanes between gardens and an old stone tower above the houses. There is no seafront and no resort strip. Walk past the village onto the ridge in the evening and the whole strait opens up: Meganisi, Kalamos and Kastos to the east, Ithaca to the south, the tip of Kefalonia and the mainland mountains beyond. The bay below is one of the best places to swim on this coast, and the harbour at Sivota is a short drive away. Poros suits couples and families who want calm, and anyone who likes watching the light change over the water. The villas we look after stand on the hill above the village, facing east across the strait.
